Well, I woke up this morning and went down to the garage to drive to work with my girlfriend to find that her 2001 Impreza 2.5rs was gone. We went through all the normal channels to see if it was towed from our apartment buildings garage, but it had not been. We reported it stolen to the police this morning and they told us not to hold our breath, it was probably already chopped (we are in Colorado, and most stolen subies never get recovered). We have insurance, so we just trying to plan the replacement car.
My question for you guys is:
What do you recommend for a replacement:
The requirements are:
AWD
Seats 4+
Automatic (Easy i know)
Reliable
Under 100k mile
Under 10k$
The obvious choice is another subaru, which we may do. But I am curious if you fine folks can come up with an alternative option. I personally like the Honda HRV but I dont think we can find one in our price range.
(Car in the picture was not the one stolen...or I would be losing my shit)

Uhh first I would consider moving to a new apartment complex. If someone can just waltz into your garage and drive out with your car, that isnt a very good place to live!

I’m sorry for your loss...
but here’s a Subaru Legacy GT with 96k miles and an auto!

Thanks man! its certainly sucks. That was a fun little car, even with the Auto trans, and we had just done a complete headgasket rebuild less than a year ago, hoping insurance take that into account.

We live in hands down the richest and safest area of the city. Apparently this has become pretty common place in Denver. But I am definitely installing a tracker on my s2000.

We were considering one of those. I really like the HRV as it is a bit smaller but they are still very new.

Also we have the problem where some stupid residents let people walk into the building behind them even though they do not recognize the person walking in.

Oh man, that sucks. Those old 2.5RS are some of my favorite Scoobs. That really blows.

You’re tellin me man. We just had the headgaskets and timingbelt redone, that thing was ready for the next 100k miles... But here we are.

Well its pretty shitty to not hold a door open for someone carrying a bunch of shopping bags and saying “NAH YOU GOTTA SCAN IN”. But yeah I get your point, security is only going to be as good as those who live there. They could at least have cameras at the entrances, perhaps fewer entry points or even a door man 24/7 if they want real security. I really hate how helpless I would feel though with a stolen car. Theres almost nothing you can do other than have insurance.

I feel for you. I woke up to an empty spot where my car used to be as well. And it was a WRX!
Sounds like your girlfriend needs another Subaru.

Based on the pic, I thought the story was going to be that you woke up and a stolen Subaru rally car was in your garage.

Yeah and they do have cameras, we are still trying to narrow down when it happens. Someone elses car was broken into the same time so we were able to figure out the time window. But I am going to suggest that they add more cameras in the garage, to my surprise they only have 2 watching the garage door.

Thats probably what we will get, since no one makes a small AWD car. We are open to SUV but not the top of our list.

Thanks bud. At the end of the day its just a car. We can get another and we have insurance so its whatever at this point. Nothing we can do to change it.

What can yah do. This is why we pay for insurance. I am almost happy that all the money that we have paid into the insurance company is at least going to come back to us in some way. lol. still a hassle.

At this point the lady is pretty set on something new with a more robust security system. Some sort of electronic key and maybe not so easy to make off with. While I would LOVE to have an RS again, I do not think it is in the cards.

G35X
Easy enough to find, decent looking, not terribly slow, comfortable, inexpensive parts, and easy to repair. Decent auto box. Not great fuel economy, but not terrible.
Only downside is you will need to get a pre HR engine for under 10k and 100k most likely. If you can find a 2007+ with under 100k for under 10k, I would go for it. They’re reasonably peppy.

Smaller backseat in the IS than a G35, I think it’s even smaller than a Civic’s.

Yeah, it was really a perfect car for her and we had just completed the head gasket, timing belt and water pump rebuild. It was good to go for another 100k.
